After so many years in this field, we have developed many different options for working together. Mostly we use an "eclectic" model which is a combination of methods and tools. Some of these methods and tools include talk therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychospiritual therapy, DBT-informed care (dialectical behavioral therapy) and trauma-informed therapy. Other approaches include eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), mandala assessments (MARI) and other therapeutic art techniques, The Bonny Method, gong therapy and other music-based therapies.
In your first session, we will complete an intake which includes collecting some history, reviewing your assessment questionnaires, discussing your reasons for seeking therapy. We will also talk symptoms you may be experiencing. Then, we will come up with an initial treatment plan.
The frequency of therapy sessions will depend on your individual needs and goals. Many clients attend therapy once a week, while others may attend less frequently. We will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.
EMDR is a technique that was developed to help heal PTSD and other conditions, especially those which seem to have disturbing memories associated with them. EMDR methods encourage stuck memories to integrate with current and recent past experiences. This offers relief and lessens the intensity of upset, flashbacks and other symptoms. Often the pain around these memories will simply dissipate, losing their power over us.
